Cllr Sarah James
Born and bred in Aylesbury, I have always been passionate about the town and ensuring that the community I live in is safe, friendly and inclusive. I attended Bearbrook school, and then on to Sir Henry Floyd, leaving there in the early 90’s. During this time I worked at the local shop and at Texas (now Homebase) on Broadfields. Before that though I worked in the old underground market selling glass ornaments opposite the formidable Mrs Morrison’s electrical shop & Martin’s shoe repairs. My first full time job was at New Street Motors (now a block of flats!) before moving into the financial services industry working for Nationwide and Halifax, and now I have best job ever working for Lloyds with Small and Medium size enterprises in Bedford & Stevenage, supporting commercial clients with their business needs and helping them fulfil their dreams. My husband and I have been married for 11 years and we have two daughters aged 9 & 6. In 2016 I was elected to be a parent governor of Waddesdon Village Primary School and this is something that I really enjoy and would advocate other people to do this, either as a parent or co-opted governor as your support is invaluable and you learn a lot about the education system as well as skills you can use in everyday work and life. Before moving to Fairford Leys last year,
We lived on Haydon Hill where I was a committee member for many years. This involved supporting the organisation of events for the community such as litter picks, community gardening, tree planting, OAP lunches and children’s Christmas parties. I also organised several street parties for jubilees, weddings, annual fireworks and annual summer BBQ’s. I found this role very rewarding and felt I was giving something back to the community and helping my estate become a better place to live. I believe it is important for everyone to live in a clean and safe environment, and I encourage our children to take pride in where they live. I think it is important that we know our neighbours and actively engage with them on a frequent basis. When you can smile and acknowledge people on your doorsteps and surrounding community, it makes you feel better! Whilst serving as a local councillor, I will be there to help represent your views to the parish council. I like to add value in whatever I do, and I am committed to lending my support where I can benefit others with my expertise and desire.
