The Neighbourhood Watch Scheme reduces local opportunities for crime and thereby deters would-be thieves and vandals. It establishes a community spirit so that everyone can contribute towards the protection of their property by mutual co-operation and communication.

Normally, each road will have a local co-ordinator whose job it is to ensure that the other residents are made aware of any suspicious activity in the area. Several roads in Fairford Leys have already started a Neighbourhood Watch scheme and others are in the process of setting one up.

There are many ways in which you can help - for example by keeping an eye on a neighbour's home when it is unoccupied, has a senior citizen or is considered to be at risk. Check for mail, parcels and milk on the doorstep, maybe cut their grass while they're away and report anything suspicious to the police immediately.

The Fairford Leys website is giving its full backing to promote the scheme and will be publishing any crime reports we are sent by Aylesbury Police.

Not everyone is able to be part of a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme and this site provides an invitation for you to participate in the exchange of information with Thames Valley Police, Neighbourhood Watch and other community groups.  You do not need to join a specific watch scheme but you may find that there are like minded residents or businesses in your area who would welcome your support.

As a registered recipient you will not only benefit from the messaging but also ober the coming months as the project develops, gain access to the Community Messaging Forums, learn about those in yoru community subject of anti social behaviour orders, help identify suspected or wanted criminals from the Gallery pages or learn about community groups, events or meetings in your area.  Links to these additional pages are only visable to registered site visitors.

Become a Road Rep!

If you are interested in setting up a scheme for your road contact the Watch Administrators, Helen Thomas and Diane Brown, who will  send you an information pack. They can be contacted at Aylesbury Police Station on 01296 396262 or by email via ringmaster.aylesbury@thamesvalley.pnn.police.uk.

Talk to neighbours to see if they are interested in working together - possibly consider a questionnaire that can be posted through each door.

If there is sufficient interest, set up a meeting with your neighbours so that Helen and your local Neighbourhood Officer can give you more information about Neighbourhood Watch and the issues affecting Fairford Leys. This will be an opportunity to ask questions, confirm interest and appoint a scheme co-ordinator and deputy.

Following the first meeting, the co-ordinator completes an application form and police checks are carried out. If everything is OK, their details are entered onto the Ringmaster computer system. This is a voice mail system maintained and run by the police, which is able to ring your home, business or mobile telephone and play pre-recorded messages about relevant local crimes and community safety advice.
