Steven was re-elected as Chairman of the Council on 1st May, 2008
Steven moved to Fairford Leys from South London in August 2002. He was attracted to Aylesbury Vale for its community feel and closeness to open countryside - a world of difference from congested, impersonal central London.
Steven graduated from the Open University in June 2005 with a Social Science degree focussing in Politics and Government. "My degree gave me a passion for local politics and desire to make a difference and do something of value for the community". As a result he became a Parish Councillor for Coldharbour Parish Council and was elected as Chairman in May 2006. In May 2007 he was successful in being elected as an Aylesbury Vale District Councillor for Coldharbour Ward.
In the role as Chairman, Steven represents Fairford Leys to the outside world as the civic and ceremonial head of the council. The role of Chairman also includes: Chairing meetings of the full council; Acting as official host to visitors to the village and representing the village at ceremonial events. As a councillor, Steven also holds a monthly contituent surgery (11am to 1pm) on the first Thursday of the month at the Parish Council Office, Wedgewood Street, Fairford Leys. He is also keen to see the council promote the local businesses and community groups to the rest of Aylesbury and Buckinghamshire as well as championing public involvement in the council's activities.
Steven is keen to promote and maintain a close relationship with the local community and actively encourages the public to attend council meetings which all electors may attend and raise issues of concern to the parish council. He is also currently championing the first Village Plan for Fairford Leys, which will set out the design and community direction of the village for the next 10 years.
Additionally, Steven is the Vice-Chairman and Community Governor for St Mary's Church of England School in Fairford Leys and a Community Governor at Quarrendon Secondary School.
In his work life Steven is a qualified project and programme manager and has worked for Post Office Ltd since 1989 and is currently a Product Manager for the Post Office HomePhone Service. He has a wide range of interests from reading to cinema and theatre - especially those produced by local groups, and is interested in outward bound activities such as orienteering.
